What is BOPP?
AmTopp BOPP Film
BOPP stands for Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene. It is a thin film
made by polypropylene resin being melted and extruded through a flat
die and cast onto a chill roll. The sheet is then stretched in the
machine direction and then the traverse direction. Orienting the
film in both directions gives several desirable properties,
including: water vapor barrier, stiffness, dimensional stability,
low haze, and improved yield. The film is then usually flame or
corona treated in-line to allow for ease of printing, metallizing,
or laminating to other substrates. Typical gauges supplied are from
0.6 mil – 3.2 mil.
AmTopp BOPP films are primarily used for food packaging, labels,
tape, and stationery applications. Uncoated/unprinted polypropylene
film does not contain any environmentally hazardous substances. All
AmTopp BOPP films are currently FDA approved for food contact and
also meet all CONEG regulations for heavy metals.
