Dalton, GA – June 12, 2025 – Two local Dalton high school graduates, Isaac Castellon and Leo Rafael of Southeast Whitfield High School’s class of 2025, have been awarded the inaugural Milo Kalis Scholarship from Inteplast Engineered Films (IEF) in Dalton, GA. The late Milo Kalis was the plant manager from 2016 to 2024 at the IEF facility on Needham Drive.
IEF President Bob Stein initiated the scholarship in honor of Kalis, an impactful and influential leader within the business unit and throughout Inteplast Group. The scholarship ranges from $1,000 to $1,500 and recipients may defer their award for up to one year and is coordinated through the Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy.
Stein explained the impetus for the scholarship, noting that Kalis was a caring and inspiring human being first, while being an exceptional leader in manufacturing.
“We specifically tied this scholarship to students’ who appear to be starting a career that most aligns with Milo’s and with sparkles of Milo’s personality. Milo always spoke so proudly about the Dalton employees. His operational and technical knowledge, and his passion for manufacturing excellence along with this softer side is at the core of our company values. We felt that the scholarships are a way to not only to remember Milo in a special way, but also to help a few area students that we think Milo could see as future IEF team members and maybe leaders,” said Stein.
Scholarship applications for the 2026-2027 academic school year will open in August of this year and will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with the deadline being May of 2026. The Milo Kalis Scholarship will be available on an annual basis until 2030, for the 2030-2031 academic year.
